Taking some time off from the big screen, film actor Aamir Khan will appear, for the first time, in a video music album based on
the compositions by noted Urdu poet Kaifi Azmi.
The video album would have Aamir Khan enacting the role of a photojournalist, who has seen the dark side of life, including war, and seeks companionship of his female friend.
Aamir said, "The video is being shot on the nazm Jab Bhi Choom Leta Hoon In Haseen Aankhon Ko which was part of the recently released music album Pyar Ka Jashn comprising eight path-breaking nazms (couplets) of late Kaifi, based on love and trials and tribulations in life".
Describing his decision to feature in a video album as an "emotional one", the actor said "I have always been a great admirer of Kaifi's work and have respected him for his great writing. Hence when his son Baba Azmi, director of the video album said that he was looking out for someone to feature in the album, I offered myself, It was purely an emotional decision".
"I have tried to do justice to Kaifi's work and to ensure that the video reflects his vision of life. I hope the video would be a fitting tribute to the doyen of Urdu poetry", Aamir, dressed in jeans and sporting long hair, said.
"I continue to be impressed by Kaifi's work in HEER RANJA which is completely in rhyme. I advise the younger generation to view films like these to understand Kaifi's work and his style of writing", he added. However, Aamir clarified that there were no more music albums in the pipeline. "This time I had made an exception because of Kaifiji", he added.
The video album has the upcoming actress Gauri Karnik, playing the role of his companion. The music is composed by Roop Kumar Rathod and the album is slated to be released next week.
The eight poems in the music album had been selected by Kaifi himself and his wife Shaukat and reflect the poet's ideology and philosophy of life, Rathod told reporters.
"When I had composed the songs, I asked Kaifi to come and hear the music. I was amazed that he came over to listen to the composition even though it was raining heavily that day. Kaifi had tears in his eyes when he heard the composition", said Rathod.
According to Baba Azmi, son of the poet and director of the video, "I hope the album would be a fitting tribute to my father. He has a large number of admirers and I hope to do justice to his thought and philosophy. I have also taken the liberty of interpreting his poem the way I saw it".
"The album captures my father's philosophy. It has both romance and serious issues of life", he said.
Interestingly, Baba, an ace cinematographer himself, had chosen to hand over the camera to his senior Ashok Mehta for the album, saying that the latter, being a veteran, could perform the task better.
