As music director and singer he has given 36 hit songs in a row and in 11 yearlong career he has composed 500 odd songs. After all this success he decided to change track and started acting with the condition that he will sing songs and compose music for the film in which he will be acting. After a hit and a flop Himesh Reshammiya is gearing up for his third release ‘Radio’. Prior to the release Himesh is confident because his film has recovered it’s cost and collection at the box office will be pure profit, but he is eyeing the appreciation. Every two years he has tried something new and succeeded and now this composer, singer and actor is ready for yet another challenge. In a free wheeling interview with Ashish Bhinde he shares some really candid thoughts and pours his heart out about certain allegation and clears the air too. Excerpts….

Q. Radio, it’s a unique name for the film. What is Radio all about?
A. It’s a film about relationship in today’s time. It discusses things like compatibility, relationship status in the time of Face book. The film is light hearted and nothing here will be over the top or larger then life.  The story revolves around a RJ, who solves other people’s problems but he himself is in problem. His wife (played by Sonal Sehgal) has demanded divorce citing compatibility issue.  He meets one half Punjabi and half Parsi girl Shernaz Dhingra (Shehnaz Treasurywala) who works with her as a RJ and his life starts taking different turn. It’s very believable film and it deals with the issues like compatibility and closure have been handled in a light-hearted manner.

Q. Your career as a composer and singer was on peel when you decided to turn to acting. Why you decided to do so?
A. I am a good actor and I wanted to prove it. After I turned composer from television serial producer my earnings were upped 10 times. Now, I am composer, singer and an actor and I earn 100 times more, this is one reason I have taken this decision. Apart from that, I have done something new every 2 years. I have thought which nobody thought before me and implemented too. Whenever I tried something new, people asked me why I am doing this? Some criticized me, some laughed at me… but I knew what I was doing all the time. One has to take risk and think, what others haven’t.

Q. Radio has recovered its cost before the release, now what is your expectation from it?
A. The film has been made in budget of Rs.6 crores and we deliberately priced film in a such way that each and everyone associated with the film, should earn from it.  Producer has recovered his money from music and satellite rights alone. Any income from the box office will be profit.  Now, I want that my fans and audience should like the film and appreciate efforts taken by me. I tried to act as natural as I can and have attended many workshops for the same prior to the films shooting. It’s a film with which people can relate and characters too are believable. Lets hope people like the film.

Q. Salman Khan and you seem to have ironed out problems amongst you, what was the problem between you?
A. Really nothing… it’s all media’s speculations. I got chance to compose music for the films due to Salmanbhai, we have worked together for 11-12 films. After that I stopped working for other filmmakers. Now I compose and sing for the film in which I am acting, so where is the question of not working with Salman or ego clash with him. Media has made two plus two into four and arrived on the conclusion that something is wrong between us. But there is nothing like that. During all these years we have been seen together in different reality shows. I was even invited for Dus Ka Dum and on the show Salmanbhai made a comment that all must watch Radio, as it is a good film. There was never a problem or a tension between us.

Q. So far you have worked with new actresses only, is there any particular reason you are not doing film with established actress?
A. I am an unconventional hero and my image is also building, so if I work with an established actress the chemistry between us will be missing. Secondly, I am doing everything for the first time so why not work with new actresses as well?

Q. Talent, luck or hard work? What is ingredient of your success?
A. Luck and god’s grace. See, there are people in this worlds who are more talented then me, but they are not successful. I believe I got success because of luck. You need to back it up by hard work also. I was producing television serials but when I decided to turn music composer I worked hard and created stock of 300 tunes. After that I started calling producers and invited them the tunes. This is how I signed 16 films in just one week. Similarly, when I decided to turn singer I had 50 songs with me. Hard work backed by luck and ability to think new before anybody else thinks, is the key of my success.

Q. Any regrets so far?
A. Only one, debacle of Karzzzz. The film was not priced properly. Though producer and I earned from it some people lost money. It was sold for Rs. 42 crores, which was unrealistic. Box office collections were not as per the price and now I have a flop against my name. That’s why we carefully priced Radio, so nobody looses the money.

Q. Radio is releasing on Thursday (3rd December) and not on Friday, is there any treason behind it?
A. Astrology and numerology. Number 4 and 8 doesn’t suit me so instead of releasing film on Friday the 4th we decided to release it on Thursday. Karzzzz was released on 17th (7+1=8), which was not favorable for me, but we ignored it and it bombed. 

Q. Your last film released a year ago, so are you keeping this gap deliberately?
A. I completed shooting of 4 films during this year. Release Radio was delayed due to producers strike. But now my 3 films will release back to back. Pooja Bhatt’s Kajrare, Ishq Unplugged and Johan Mathew Matahn’s Love Ishtory will release after two months gap from each other.
