Mumbai: From the inimitable style to the unrelenting charm, Zeenat Aman recalls memories of working with Feroz Khan, who died on Sunday night.
I was really sad to hear about Feroz's demise. I feel sadder because I was unable to meet him when he was ailing, simply because for a long time I was unaware of his illness. The last time I met him was at the Zee Cine Awards function where I gave away the lifetime achievement award to him.
I have had a splendid time working with Feroz. The first thing that comes to mind when you think of Feroz is his style. He was easily one of the most stylish people you met in your life. His personal style was unique, confident, and definite. It permeated into whatever he did, his clothes, his life, and his films. He did things according to what he felt was right, and didn't follow others. He was very much ahead of his time while making films, technology-wise and subject-wise.
He was one of those rare people at that time who was abreast with what was happening around the world. A man who lived life on his own terms and didn't worry about what the world thought of him. He believed in living larger than life and followed it till the end of time.
During the making of Qurbani, which I was a part of, he was charm personified. One thing I can't help but remember is that if he didn't like a particular set after it was erected, he wouldn't think twice before getting it all dismantled, without bothering about the cost involved. He lived life like that, even as a mentor. For someone as large hearted, he could easily be called a king or pasha.
He was always sweet and charming to the people around him, very rarely losing his temper. He was always extremely affectionate, warm, and friendly with me. He never forgot his old friends, and would invite them to the premieres of all his films. His charm was legendary and touched everyone he met, more so women. A chivalrous, charming, and very masculine person. He was a very unique person and, more importantly, truly a special friend. I will miss him and so will the industry. It's a big loss.
