New Delhi: Evergreen actor Dev Anand says politics is not his cup of tea and his casting SP leader Amar Singh in his forthcoming film is no indication of it.
"You have seen my graph. Have you seen me canvassing for anybody in so many years?" the veteran actor sought to know when asked whether he was contemplating dabbling with politics.
The actor, who this morning started a two-day shooting schedule at Singh's residence, whom he has cast as Home Minister in his film "Chargesheet", said though he had been associated with the Janata Party government in the 70s, he realised soon after that he could not fit into politics.
"...You must understand my history... They made me the president of the national party which was formed after the Emergency had been brought down... It was not my cup of tea and what I am doing now is the most beautiful work," the actor said.
On his part, the Samajwadi Party leader said his relationship with the veteran actor was that of the heart and not that of give and take.
"There is no transactional relationship with artists and it is my honour that Dev Sahab is sitting next to me. He is not joining or canvassing for Samajwadi Party. He is an institution in himself. He should not be associated with such shallow talk," the SP general secretary said.
