Movie releases this week promise a lot of laughs. Barah Aana, Gulaal, Aloo Chaat, Jai Veeru, and Little Zizou are slated to release this weekend.
Baarah Aana is about three guys (Nasseruddin Shah, Vijay Raaz, Arjun Mathur) who form an unlikely friendship and then suddenly one of them stumbles upon a crime. Trying to make a quick buck the three devise a plan; however, this soon leads to distrust among the three and gradually culminates into an unexpected twist. Naseeruddin Shah is famed for his pick of off-beat scripts, so one can expect an interesting story. However, since the movie does not boast of a star cast and is lacking in glamour too, one cannot expect audiences too make a beeline for this one on day one.
Riding on the recent success of Dev D, Anurag Kashyap is set to release Gulaal. This movie is set in the fictional city of Rajpur, Rajasthan. A young member of the royal family wants Rajputana back from the government. He challenges the idea of democracy, but soon after coming to power, corruption sets in. Expectations are riding high on Anuraag and since political based movies have known to do well, Gulaal could well be one of the movies to pull crowds this weekend.
In Aloo Chaat, Aftab Shivdasani plays a US-returned bachelor who is shown eligible girls for marriage but he already has a girlfriend and is unable to tell his family about this. His father`s best friend assures him he would help him in breaking the news to the parents. Together they plot to bring in the girlfriend into the family fold. Comedies with big stars have fallen flat at the box office. Not many comedies released this year have been received too well and Aloo Chaat’s fate hangs by a thin rope.
Another comedy to hit the screens this weekend is a cop and crook story featuring Fardeen Khan and Kunal Khemu. After a misunderstanding, the two good friends go their separate ways and turn into bitter enemies. Tejpal( Arbaaz Khan) adds fuel to this fire and tries to get them both killed. Jai Veeru might face competition from Barah Aana and Aloo Chaat; and Barah Aana wil probably pull much of the audience away from the other two.
This weekend will see the release of yet another comedy, Little Zizou. Written by Sooni Taraporewala and produced by Mira Nair, Little Zizou is set in Mumbai and revolves around two conflicting Parsi families, and a little boy who is a huge fan of Zidane. John Abraham has a cameo in this movie which also stars Boman Irani and Cyrus Broacha. This movie would generate some interest as Boman Irani and Cyrus Broacha share a good repute as seasoned comedians.
This week has a good line-up of comedies and this could lead to a stiff competition at the box office and films like Aloo Chaat and Jai Veeru could lose out to the competitors. Gulaal being the only hardcore drama might enjoy good earnings and possibly emerge a top gainer this week.
