New York: Oscar-winning actor Mel Gibson is growing his hair back now after shaving it off when his son dared him to do so.

The actor was convinced that he could carry off the bald look but was embarrassed when the experiment backfired badly.

The 53-year-old Gibson told the New York Post, "I thought it would be cool. That I'd be Shaft. Looking like I was a plucked chicken."

But apparently the actor was not pleased with the results of his dare act.

Gibson added that only silver lining to the otherwise disastrous style was that people didn't recognise him on the streets and he could walk about without getting mobbed.

"The only perk was I wasn't recognised in a crowd, so it was easy walking out," the actor said.
