Mumbai: "Why don't they just divorce each other?" is a question everyone is asking since the sordid tale of Adnan Sami and his wife Sabah's acrimonious marriage came out into the open. Just when you thought it couldn't get any weirder, it did.

According to Adnan, he's been receiving calls from people threatening to kill him. His spokesperson Alok Mathur alleged there was information that Sabah has paid a supari of Rs 10 lakh to bump him off!

"Yes, he has come to know about it (the alleged conspiracy to kill him). But he has the support of the Indian Home Ministry which has has assured him security. Also, the Prime Minister of Pakistan, Yousuf Raza Gilani, has assured him support and protection as he is a family friend," said Mathur.

On the other hand, advocate Mrinalini Deshmukh, who represents Sabah, has rubbished the allegation. "This is ridiculous. The fact that the girl (Sabah) is following the legal route to get a divorce itself shows the truth. If what he is claiming is true, why would she seek a divorce?" she said. But Adnan's lawyer Vaibhav Mohile has said they would be filing a police complaint regarding the death threat very soon.

Asked whether it was worrying how the situation seemed to be getting murkier by the day, Mrinalini said, "We were taking the legal route, like anyone seeking a divorce would. Ask them (Adnan) how the world got to know about what happened in the last two days."

DNA also contacted Adnan, but he refused to comment saying his lawyer had asked him not to talk about the case as it was sub judice.
