Rani loses her fizz!
Saturday, February 07, 2009 18:46 [IST]

ranismilingMumbai: It seems Rani Mukerji's decreasing visibility in the public eye has started taking a toll on her endorsements too. The actress is no longer with the soft drinks brand Fanta. She has been replaced by the much younger Genelia D'souza. In fact, Rani is also not associated with the Munch chocolate brand anymore.

There are several reasons for the replacement. Rani, what with her alliance with Aditya Chopra, has almost stopped doing films outside Yash Raj Films. "Her past films did not do well at the box-office and it's an added worry for any company. From the numero uno spot to lesser and lesser films has made her fade in the public's memory. To top it all, she is completely off-media which has made her almost invisible," a source says.

And it seems that 30-year-old Rani has grown old with time too. "It's quite ironical, but the industry always maintains that an actress touching 30 is considered not young. When Rani's contract expired, it was decided that she doesn't fit the bill any more because it's more of a youth brand. Her high price in times of recession is also a matter of worry. The Coca Cola Company did not bother to renew her contract. On the other hand, they have renewed their contract with Aamir Khan recently. Genelia D'souza, who has been a success with her recent hit Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na last year, will have a good connect with the young crowd and hence she has been signed on," the source adds.

When contacted, a Coca Cola India spokesperson says, "Yes, we have signed Genelia and shot the ad too. It's supposed to come on air by February 15. We have not renewed Rani's contract after it got expired. It is not appropriate for us to give a comment on who is a bigger star - both are stars in their own right."
