Arbaaz Khan talks about extra- marital affairs and making a marriage work.In films like Dus Kahaniyaan, Woodstock Villa, Fashion and now Mere Khwabon Mein Jo Aaye you play a man having an extra-marital affair. How's that for a coincidence?
Now that's sheer coincidence. But in Mere Khwabon..., that aspect is not played on very much. I haven't chosen these roles keeping anything in mind. My forthcoming venture is principally a husband-wife film and deals with how distance and job create problems in one's married life. It shows how working for a better life can be a double- edged sword for your marriage. You put in hours in office slogging to attain a better standard of living but you end up giving less quality time to your better half. One fine day you realise that your marriage isn't right anymore.
Tell us a bit about the storyline of Mere Khwabon Mein Jo Aaye.
I'm married to this ambitious girl (played by Raima Sen) whose confidence and ambition I appreciate. But I hide this feeling within me and ask her not to chase her dream of becoming a singer. That makes the marriage rocky as the girl gets depressed and conjures up a man of her dreams who appears whenever she needs someone. She realises her dream but goes through a lot too in the process.
You are a complete contrast in your personal life as you have happily allowed Malaika to do whatever she wants. Did you relate to the character you play?
It is true that I'm a total contrast but every time you don't play characters that you can relate to. I have played policemen, psycho characters and many others whom I could never relate to but if you are an actor, you have to play different roles. It's your job.
What's the status of your film Stoneman? It's been lying ready for a year now.
I don't know what's happening with it. It's ready for release. Nobody from that film has got in touch with me as of today.
And what's happening to your other film with Boney Kapoor which was being supported by Salman Khan?
That's in the backburner. If it had to happen, it should have happened last year. I'm now concentrating on my own production house. Salman is the hero of my first film and I have signed Abhinav Kashyap. It should start this year. It is a commercial film but will be a drama bordering around reality.
