Renuka quits dailies
Monday, January 19, 2009 12:17 [IST]

renukaMumbai: Renuka Shahane has decided to stay away from daily soaps completely. The actor feels they are 'funny' because everything -- from the storyline to the characters -- is dependent on TRPs.

"I don't want to be a part of any daily soap; it's a strict no-no for me. I find the daily soap culture funny. Things that are told when the show starts, change without any prior notice.

The decision on the plot operates with the swing of TRPs. No one sticks to the storyline they thought of initially. As actors whatever energy and emotion we invest into a character goes for a toss," she says.

Renuka is part of a clan when weekly soaps were the mainstay of the small screen. "I am just hoping for the revival of the TV scene and keeping my fingers crossed that weeklies return on TV. Nowadays, all soaps tell the same story and everyone is trying to ape someone else," she says.

Currently she is busy with the post-production of her film Rita which is an adaptation of her mother's book.

"My film is expected to hit the theatres in February. Next, I will be busy with the scripting of my second film which is in Hindi. I am really nervous and at the same time excited about the release of Rita," she says.

When asked which is more satisfying - directing or acting, she says, "Directing is more satisfying. I have always loved the sense of responsibility and leading the pack; the whole process of making a film and being the captain of the ship excites me. So, I would choose direction over acting," she ends.
