Thiruvananthapuram: Twenty20 which features almost all the top stars of Malayalam cinema, has won the Ujala-Asianet award for best film for 2008.
The film is directed by Joshi and produced by actor Dileep under the banner of Association of Malayalam Movie Artistes (AMMA).
The Ujala-Asianet awards are selected on the basis of nominations from lakhs of Asianet viewers. There are special awards by the jury also.
K J Yesudas was given the lifetime achievement award for his contribution to Malayalam cinema. Akku Akbar was adjudged best director- Veruthe Oru Bharya .
Mohanlal and Gopika were adjudged best actors in male and female roles for their performances in `Madambi and `Veruthe Oru Bharya respectively.
Jayaram was chosen the best popular actor (Veruthe Oru Bharya) while Innocent was selected as the best actor in a character role - Innathe Chinthavishayam .
M G Sreekumar was adjudged best male playback singer while Swetha Mohan won the award for best female voice.
Other awardees: Samvrutha Sunil (character role), Siddique (villain), Salim Kumar (comedy), K Girish Kumar (screenplay), Girish Puthanchery (lyrics), Vidyasagar (music director), Baby Nivedita (child artiste), M J Radhakrishnan (cinematography), Ranjan Abraham (editing), Jayasurya and Roma (best star pair), Vineeth Sreenivasan and Meera Nandan (debut actors).
Special jury awards were given to veteran actor Jagathi Sreekumar for his performance in various films and Major Ravi, director of `Kurukshetra, which was adjudged best patriotic film. Source : PTI
