Mumbai: Dhobi Ghat of Saat Rasta will shine on the silver screen again.
The ghat had been a much frequented location for Bollywood directors, but was out of focus for the past few years. The civic authority has permitted actor Aamir Khan to shoot in the location.
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has decided to develop the ghat, which is surrounded by filth, overflowing drains and old buildings, as a tourist site.
Additional municipal commissioner RA Rajeev said, "There is nothing wrong in allowing film shooting at Mumbai's memorable spots. Films showcase citys monuments. But if they show poverty, garbage etc and defame the city, then the civic authority will not allow them to do so."
Aamir Khan Production representative Sunita Rao came to the BMC headquarters to seek permission on Wednesday.
Earlier, the civic body had a plan to beautify the Dhobi Ghat and construct a viewers gallery for tourists. However, that plan did not work out.
