Salman Khan did not make any concession for his brother-in-law Atul Agnihotri - be it the money or the dates.
"I didn't get his dates for a long time. And Salman's dates are generally full for one whole year. He had made some commitments and he is somebody who will always respect his commitments. The wait was worth it," says Atul Agnihotri who is making a comeback of sorts as a director with his forthcoming film Hello.
Salman also didnt make an exception with his fees when it came to Hello. "Look, I know that there is a word going around that he has done a guest appearance for my film because he is seen on the screen only for 25 minutes. Salman is more important to the film than any other actor and theres no question of any guest appearance in the film, I guess thats a very derogatory term to use. It means that the actor has either done the film for free or he is actually not a part of the film sort of a surprise element in the film. I don't believe in the term," Atul adds.
Does he mean to say that he has paid Salman all his fees just for 25 minutes of screen presence? "I would say that we have not underpaid him and Salman is not somebody who cares about money. At the end of the day let us admit that its a Salman Khan negative (an industry term for film) never mind whatever is there, you are going to get your money back (as a producer)," the director adds.
And what is his experience about working with Salman Khan who is widely known to be the most moody actor in the industry?
"Very few people understand him. Yes he is moody and yes, he believes in quality than quantity. But any relationship with Salman Khan is a progressive one and there are so many people in the industry who have built their careers on Salman Khan. What do you think the USP of my film is?" he asks.
Atul's last directorial outing was with Dil Ne Jise Apna Kaha a box office dud that was released in 2004.
