Second coming for Meera
Friday, September 26, 2008 03:35 [IST]

meeraPooja Bhatt is producing a new film which will be made in collaboration with a Pakistani filmmaker, and this will see Meera playing a pivotal role. Meera has been trying her luck in Bollywood but has only disasters like Kasak and Nazar to boast of.

Pooja’s latest film is said to be inspired from the 1950 classic American noir film Sunset Boulevard. The film, which is tentatively titled Actress, is being directed by Shagufta Rafique, a singer turned script writer. Shagufta had earlier written the scripts for Woh Lamhe, Awarapan and Dhokha. The movie will also launch two new faces, a boy and a girl.

Shagufta says, “I had written the script and the Bhatts (Mukesh and Mahesh) asked me if I could direct it too, since I was so involved with the project. I readily accepted the offer. I thought if I don’t take up the challenge now, I will never get this chance again.”
She admits that the film is inspired from Sunset Boulevard, “but we will make it with Indian flavours and there will be many changes introduced,” she says.

Sunset Boulevard is a film about a screenwriter who writes the screenplay for a silent film star and who has faded into obscurity. The Hindi version will see Meera playing the role of an actor who is past her prime and her tragic experience of being shunned by her
 fraternity.

Shagufta says, “We thought Meera was best to play the lead role as she would understand the feeling of being replaced by other heroines who are much younger than her. The story will have a universal appeal since in any film industry this is the tragic truth which every actress has to face when she becomes old.”
