Barely a month after Sarika made her stand clear with her conspicuous absence at Shruti’s concert in Mumbai, Shruti is not exactly in a mood to extend an olive branch.
Sarika is reportedly miffed with the fact that Shruti has chosen Kamal Haasan’s latest partner, southern siren Gouthami, over her mother. Sarika, close friends say, thinks Shruti is doing this to further her own career as she doesn’t want to burn her bridges with her dad.

When we asked Shruti about this, there came an interesting reply. She told she and ‘her family’ have tried numerous times to convince Sarika only to be rebuffed. No, we didn’t ask what she meant by the word ‘family’ when it doesn’t include her mom.

Shruti says, “I love my mother and I am grateful to her for bringing me into this world. I and my family have tried to extend our hand towards her on several occasions. It’s her life and I respect her choice of not communicating to us. I don’t intend on forcing her.” Shruti doesn’t dither to admit that her mom had ‘encouraged’ her into learning Hindustani classical music. One look at her and she seems to be a photocopy of Sarika during her heydays. Shruti smirks, “The uncanny resemblance is due to genetics.”
The singer-songwriter-actor is aware of the media buzz that surrounds her. But all that seems to be resting easy on her shoulders. “People shouldn’t have too high expectations from me just because of my lineage. I expect to be recognised as an individual. Expecting something similar to Kamal Haasan or Sarika is not a smart thing. Then people can go and see their work, not mine,” she shoots back.
