The latest animated movie on the block, Singeetam Srinivasa Rao’s Ghatothkach, which is based on the 1957 live action movie, Mayabazaar, has gone to the Cannes Film Festival for a screening. But the lead child singer of the movie, 12-year-old Shravan Suresh, is a bit sad as he is not a part of the team that is making a trip to Cannes.

Shravan, who has done leads for a variety of Bollywood movies and jingles, sounds the thorough professional when he says, “If wishes were horses, then I could have gone to Cannes. It would have been such a wonderful platform for me. The whole world should get to see the faces behind the films being shown at Cannes. After all they are the best of the lot.”

In the film Shravan sings along with Shaan and Shreya Ghoshal. Animation artists from four different countries – India, UK, Singapore and Philippines - have worked in the movie that has been made at a budget of Rs 15 crore.

Shravan, a standard VII student, is currently recording for the forthcoming sequel of director Rajiv Ruia’s My Friend Ganesha. He is also working alongside music director Shantanu Moitra of Khoya Khoya Chaand and Laaga Chunari Mein Daag fame for his next children’s movie.

Talking about his new-found fame, Shravan says, “My friends and teachers at school are thrilled. They help me juggle with my classes and recording schedules. But I must study first before immersing myself totally in Bollywood.”

A student at the music academy run by Suresh Wadkar, who has been a judge himself at a recent music reality programme, says he will strictly stay away from reality shows on TV as he doesn’t share the enthusiasm for it. Though Shravan nurtures the dream of singing for his favourite actor Hrithik Roshan, he thinks Aamir Khan is one of the friendliest actors to work with.

He says, “While recording for Taare Zameen Par, Aamir uncle interacted with the singers quite freely inside the studio. I even managed to get his autograph.”

Having earlier worked in the Saif - Rani starrer, Tara Rum Pum, he has been signed on for Kunal Kohli’s next venture that includes both the actors.
