‘I love Bollywood music'
Saturday, May 17, 2008 03:51 [IST]

sophielargeSinger and actor Sophie Choudry may soon be seen jamming with William Adams, the lead male singer of the internationally-acclaimed music band Black Eyed Peas.

William, better known as Will.I.Am, met Sophie a few months ago in London and wanted to collaborate with her for a song.

William, who has been friends with Sophie for over a year now, told her how the music of Black Eyed Peas is largely inspired by Indian music. Their Elephunk was inspired by Lord Ganesha and Monkey Business by Hanuman.

Speaking from Sydney, while on his worldwide tour, William mentioned about his love for Bollywood music. He says, “I love it, love it, love it! I can’t wait to come to India again.” He admits that he is a fan of Asha Bhosle’s voice as it is “very fresh.” Incidentally he was surprised to hear that she is in her seventies.

Now what remains to be seen is how soon the duo wraps up their current
projects. And when they do make music, it would have strong Hindi strains to it, confirms Sophie. She says, “Will told me that artists from India and China are the next big thing on the global music map, and  that he would love to  capitalize on that.”

Both of them are keen on recording the song at the studio in Bahrain owned by Sheikh Abdullah Bin Hamad Al Khalifa.

Apart from this, Sophie has just finished recording for her latest album with yet another international star, Rishi Rich along with Bappa Lahiri. And she is currently in talks with a musician from Middle East for a Hindi, English and Arabic combined feat. Sophie incidentally is a multilinguist. She says, “I am fluent in French too. I am looking for opportunities where I can collaborate with a French production.”

Sophie claims that her role in Sanjay Gupta’s Alibaug is the “most challenging one to date”. Soon, she will also start shooting in Bangkok with Neil Nitin Mukesh and Bipasha Basu for Freeze, an Eros production. She wants to don the entrepreneur’s hat soon. Along with her mother, a businesswoman, she wants to start a production house. She quips, “I have so many feathers in my cap. I want to be known as the only VJ in India who is an actor, a singer and a businesswoman.”
