The evergreen sitcom Dekh Bhai Dekh, which filled our afternoons with laughter, is all set to be made into a movie soon. To add to the fun, producer and director Anand Mahendroo has decided to make the film in three parts.
Anand confirms, “I’m making the big screen adaptation of my show Dekh Bhai Dekh. I’ve been working on the script for more than nine years. This is one of my dream projects. While conceiving the idea, I realised that it can be a franchise. So I ended up writing three screenplays.”
The story, which was about the Diwan family, will see a change in treatment as it would now be about a residential complex rather than just a particular family. Anand is yet to zero in on the title of the movie. “I’m not sure whether I am going to call it Dekh Bhai Dekh or by any other name. If I retain the original title, people might not be enticed to come to the theatres.”
However, Anand has not consulted Jaya Bachchan, who was the co-producer of the show. “She is an old friend of mine. I’m sure she won’t mind. I don’t have to ask her permission,” he asserts.
Is he going to repeat the star cast of the show? “The story still has timeless appeal but actors are not ageless. That’s why the cast would be new. I’m confident about the film’s success,” he ends.
The show included actors Farida Jalal, Shekhar Suman and Amar Upadhay.
