Taking a dig at Bollywood

vir_das4largeMumbai Salsa duo Vir and Manjari will come together for a sarcastic take on the film industry

A new Bollywood film Filmy Kidaa will try to probe the grey areas of the Indian film fraternity through the character of a small-town boy who rushes to Mumbai with the dream of becoming the next big thing of the Hindi movie industry.

Directed by Pratik Khandadiya, Filmy Kidaa is a satire on Bollywood. The shooting is scheduled to begin soon as casting is under way.

“It is a comic take on what happens when a small town boy one fine day decides that he’ll go to Mumbai and try his luck at Bollywood,” said actor Vir Das, who plays the protagonist, adding, “The boy has no godfathers in the industry, he does not know how the industry operates but he dreams of becoming a superstar.”

“There are so many people who come to the city regularly with hopes that they will become a cine star and the film is about one such soul,” he added.

A tongue-tied Vir was in no mood to give out information about the film but we managed to draw out some news nonetheless.

“The film will show how difficult it is for newcomers to chase their Bollywood dreams — it is next to impossible to go up the ladder if you don’t have someone’s backing,” he said, adding “the film will also tackle the grey areas of Bollywood.”

Grey areas? As in? “Don’t think that the film probe the widely publicised casting couch issues or something on those lines,” he said. “It is a very light-hearted comedy on the plight of this young man. It does not deal with anything serious.”

Filmy Kidaa will also cast Manjari Fadnis. Incidentally the duo was cast earlier in a flop film titled Mumbai Salsa.
