nupur_01Can we help this kid? Mohmad Qasim is just sixteen months old but he stopped hearing when he was barely nine months old. And if Qasim doesn’t go through an expensive operation within the next eight months, he will never be able to hear again for the rest of his life.

TV actor Nupur Alankar is one of the Mumbaikars who is trying to pull in as much public support as she can garner for this little boy.

“The boy has got Bilateral Profound Sensory Neutral Hearing Loss. The boy immediately requires a cochlear implant which is an expensive operation and costs between Rs 6 to 10 lakhs. If we are not able get this boy operated before he turns two, he won’t be able to hear again in his life. His parents are too poor to afford the money,” says Nupur.

The actor says that she even tried to get in touch with Salman Khan but was unable to get through to the actor.

“After reading a story of Salman Khan’s charities in DNA, I also tried to get in touch with him. I couldn’t reach him. I just request everybody to help the boy.”

Contributions have already started coming in and for starters, it’s Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh who’s one of the first to pitch in. He has sanctioned Rs 50,000 from his relief fund to the boy’s parents. But that’s too less.

Even the hospital where the boy is getting treated has waived off their charges.

“KEM Hospital has issued a letter citing the boy’s case for the authentication. In fact, they won’t charge a single penny for the surgery, operation theatre and hospitalisation costs. But still we urgently need Rs 5 lakhs to get this boy to hear again,” Nupur added.

There’s too less time and too much to do. Little Qasim wants to hear your name, anybody listening?
