‘Harmless flirting is okay’
Saturday, April 26, 2008 05:40 [IST]

sweta_3large'No more reality shows for me’
Nach Baliye was most exhausting for both Alex and me. Though the exposure was simply superb and people would go crazy when they saw us together whenever we went out.

It was wonderful to see a foreigner dance to a Bollywood number. I guess it’s the first time that one saw this happening and that too not just one but many dance numbers.

Nobody takes this kind of a risk but Alex did and that’s very appreciable about him. I have been offered many talent based reality shows with good money, I don’t have the time for it.

‘Alex is a chilled out guy’
He’s my best friend and a great listener to top that. Most Indian men I find are adamant about what they think is right. But Alex and I communicate very well.

The most important thing that binds us is the space that we both give each other. I don’t find him sitting on my head all the time like many Indian men do. Of course, he has his protective instinct and comes to my aid if he spots someone hitting on me.

Though both of us have the basic sensibilities to understand that harmless flirting is okay — most of the time one is only talking to the opposite sex and not taking
it further than that. We know that at the end of the day, we have to come back home to cherish each other’s togetherness.

‘Marriage will happen soon’
It should be sometime next year that we plan to tie the knot. Though Alex loves being here, I am not selfish to force him to stay here because of my career or family commitments.

We may shift to his home-town (USA) if we feel that’s going to help us. And anyway, his mum likes me a lot - sometimes I feel he loves me because I get along famously with her. Honestly, nothing’s decided yet though I am asked this question many times. I am cool with anything.

‘I am sick of my glamourous image’
People feel I can only play a model or a bitch. I was trying very hard to break away from the mould. That’s when I was offered this de-glam role of a village belle in Baa, Bahoo or Baby.

Here I actually tie two chotis and don’t wear high heels. Considering it’s such a popular show and I was considered for this role was a huge opportunity that I didn’t want to pass.

‘I have become choosy’
This show is so relaxing because it’s a feel-good show and so different from all the saas-bahu plotting and negativity. Of course, the money is good there but the repetitiveness can get to you.

So I took a long break and decided to experiment with something different. It was a while since I did comedy and I sure am having a ball with Baa….
