London: Veteran actor Martin Sheen has lent his support to US presidential nominee Barack Obama.

Both Hillary Clinton and Obama's camps approached Sheen for his support, contactmusic.com reports.

He said: "Both Obama and Clinton came to me for support. I haven't said this publicly before, but I'm an Obama supporter."

Sheen played president Josiah Bartlet on the popular show "The West Wing", which even former president Bill Clinton was a fan of.

Sheen said: "Bill Clinton loved 'The West Wing' and still calls me the president, so I have to be careful."
