Once upon a time, he was the most popular romantic hero on the small screen. Today Rajeev Khandelwal has decided to move on…to the big screen.
Rajeev doesn’t have a heroine in his debut film yet he is excited about his ‘unconventional’ debut project Aamir.
“It was quite obvious that the audience would expect me to do a romantic film. But, I wanted to do something different, so I chose Aamir,” Rajeev explains.
The film includes quite a few shots from hidden cameras to add to the drama and the crew had a difficult time shooting with them.
“It was really difficult as we were shooting with the hidden cameras. When I was giving the shot, I didn’t even know where the camera was. It was actually very challenging, but at the same time creatively satisfying,” he said.
It has been a sort of a trend that after getting success in TV industry, the actors decide to give it a go for the big screen. But at the same time, most of the TV stars are forced to return to the small screen when their Bollywood dreams don’t take off. Example? Amarr Upadhyay of Kynki Saas bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi.
Rajeev defended the trend, “So, does it mean one should not try? I respect Amarr a lot as an actor, the fact is that at least he tried. Failure should not stop someone from trying.”
At the same time, Rajeev admits that there is a huge difference between the two mediums.
“Yes, there is a huge difference. People in the medium of cinema are really passionate about their work and there are no ego hassles as such. At the same time, I know that television has its share of creativity. But, at the end it tends to become a tad boring,” he said.
So did anybody give him the cold shoulder as he has come from the TV industry? “I was lucky enough not to experience it.”
So will he come back to the small screen at some point in time?
“I hate this question. I want to move on in life. Now, I want to concentrate on my film career.”
Lastly, we decide to ask him about his “good friend” and co-star Aamna Shariff. And guess what he replied? “We are still good friends. If the story is exciting enough, I don’t mind being paired with her too.”
Does that sound a little predictable, eh?
