Be it the Narmada Bachao Andolan or the Olympic torch relay (he is one of torch bearers of the 2008 Beijing Olympics), Aamir Khan is one actor who has no qualms about supporting social causes.
Also, the actor who is known to stay away from award functions made it a point to attend a recent award function held by a channel, which honoured ‘real heroes’. “This award is different as it acknowledges contributions, which are making a substantial change in society.
These are the people who are devoted to the country, and work towards their goals selflessly despite the constraints they face everyday. I’m extremely happy to be associated with this initiative,” he said.
When the Lagaan actor was asked whether he would be watching cricket in the upcoming season, he said, “I always enjoy cricket. I am a big fan of the game.” Any particular team he would be rooting for?
“It would obviously be Mumbai (referring to Mukesh Ambani’s IPL team). I belong to this city as I have been born and brought up here. So, I am going to support the Mumbai team definitely,” he affirmed.
Aamir has also been in the news for the bald look that he is sporting for his new film, the remake of the South Indian movie Ghajini directed by A Murugadoss (who directed the Tamil version too).
However, there is a lot of speculation about the storyline having a similarity with Christopher Nolan’s critically-acclaimed movie Memento (2000) starring Guy Pearce.
However, the actor denied that saying, “No not at all. My movie is the remake of Ghajini, not Memento. The DVDs are available in the market and you can see the difference.”
Aamir is definitely gung-ho about his co-actor Asin Thottumkal. “She is very good and immensely talented,’ he added.
Incidentally, Aamir was asked to boycott the Beijing Olympics by members of the Tibetan community as a protest for ‘the injustice meted’ to them in their fight for freedom against China. But the actor insisted that he would take part in India’s torch relay today ‘with a prayer in his heart’ for the people of Tibet.
