Wednesday, April 16, 2008 11:25 [IST]

New Delhi: A three-day-long festival of movies by veteran filmmaker B R Chopra will be held in the national capital from April 18.

A special tribute is being given to Chopra, whose 94th birthday falls on April 22, with the screening of nine of his masterpieces by the Film and Television Producers Guild of India as part of its initiative "Guild Greats".

Chopra, his son Ravi, actor Raj Babbar, filmmakers Basu Chatterji, Bobby Bedi and Raj Tilak and music maestro Ravi are expected to attend the opening ceremony at the Siri Fort Complex here after which "Insaaf Ka Tarazu" will be screened.

Co-organised by ASSOCHAM, the other films to be shown are: "Hamraaz" (1967), "Waqt" (1965), "Ittefaq" (1969), "Baghban" (2003), "Gumraah" (1963), "Nikaah" (1982), "Naya Daur" (1957), and "Chhoti Si Baat" (1976).

All the films to be screened were either made with a social objective or broke new ground.

If "Insaaf Ka Tarazu" dealt with legal problems, "Gumraah" showed the dilemma of a woman in a triangular relationship.

"Nikaah" questioned the law of divorce in Islam while "Baghbaan" showed the mirror to the young who often ignore their ageing parents.
