Emraan will give up betting? You bet!
Monday, April 14, 2008 15:50 [IST]
emran_hashmiHis role in his latest film prompted Emraan Hashmi to try out his luck in betting. Still regarded as a crime according to the lawbook, Emraan says that he has also lost a sizeable sum in the process.

“Acting in Jannat seduced me to get into small-time  betting and I have lost some good money in the process,” the actor said.

Maybe it’s because of the money or maybe somebody has told him that it’s still a crime in India, Emraan has vowed not to get into betting anymore.

“I think I will not bet anymore. I have never betted in my life and it is the inexperience in that area that has made me lose and I also have  horrible luck,” the actor added.
Emraan Hashmi plays the role of a betting kingpin in his forthcoming film Jannat that revolves around the grey areas of cricket.

But does Emraan know of the saying that a person who has bad luck in betting or cards, is a successful man otherwise? “Oh yes, I know that,” he said excitedly, adding, “That’s the thought which is giving me peace.”

Most of the actor’s movies (Kalyug, Zeher, etc) delve into the darker side of a person’s character sometimes the devilish traits too.

“It is but normal to have some grey in your self, we are humans,” he said.
So how’s Mr Hashmi’s alter-ego? (We all know he is a major prankster.) “Oh don’t ask. People whom I have to honk at to ask them repeatedly to move from my way, I sometimes feel like zapping them with my laser gun.”

However, Sonal Chauhan who plays his love interest in the film was more forthcoming to reveal the real Emraan to us. “Oh he is a sadist,” she declared on Fever 104 FM, adding, “Really, he enjoys getting on the nerves of people. He is a livewire, constantly playing pranks. You have to catch him in his naughty mood.”

All the big films in Emraan’s career have come from the Bhatt camp. Doesn’t he feel that he is restricting himself by giving preference to the Bhatts?

“We are one big happy family,” he said, adding, “They are my first choice for a movie. We share a great understanding. But if I’ll get a good script by someone else, I’ll always jump for it. I know it is very important to work with different people for your growth.”
