Mumbai: Film maker and actor Kajol's father, Shomu Mukherji, died here today following a massive cardiac arrest. He was 65.
Mukherjee is survived by actor-wife Tanuja and daughters Kajol and Tanisha. The film maker, who was unwell for quite some time, breathed his last at 0820 hrs at his residence.
The funeral will take place at the Santacruz crematorium at 1400 hrs, family sources said. Mukherji's passing away on the eve of the release of `U Me aur Hum', the directorial debut of his son-in-law Ajay Devgan, cast a pall of gloom on the family.
Family sources said the film will be released as per schedule. Shomu, youngest son of late Sashidhar Mukherji, founder of the Filmalaya studios was a producer-director of films like "Ek Baar Muskura Do" (1972), "Nanha Shikhari" (1973), "Chaila Babu" (1977), "Fifty Fifty" (1981), "Pathar Ke Insan" (1990) and "Sangdil Sanam" (1994).
His other siblings Joy and Deb Mukherji were actors.
