Here are some clichés have been dished around in Bollywood for a while and have now achieved cult status:
‘I am weighing options’ or ‘I have some projects in hand which I can’t talk about’. These are generally spouted by ‘out of work’ actors with no films in hand.
‘I have been misquoted’ generally means ‘I said it at the heat of the moment and didn’t realise that my bitchiness would show so badly in cold print’.
And of course, the evergreen one is, ‘We are just good friends’.
Also, here are some more clichés, which have been recently added to the Bollywood glossary…
‘He is my brother’. This is strangely limited to male members in B-town. Even though their own brothers may be languishing in obscurity, they go all out to call their associates ‘brothers’. Sanjay Gupta was perhaps one of the first to initiate this brotherly act towards Sanjay Dutt. Never mind if they now behave more like stepbrothers. At one point of time they were inseparable. A lot of lesser known males have followed suit.
‘He/she is family’. You do two films with a particular star and that actor/actress is promptly elevated to family status. Two films later, someone else becomes family. Perhaps by doing this, they are looking for a huge joint Indian family, obviously with the values missing.
‘I am a simple girl/boy at heart’. Roughly translated this means, ‘I might be having the wildest time of my life but please don’t judge me wrongly. I want my squeaky clean reputation intact’.
