Tusshar Kapoor is laughing out loud this year. Reason? He has at the least four films lined up for release and each of them is a comedy.
Whether it is this weekend release One Two Three, his home production C Kkompany, the sequel to his 2006 hit Golmaal, Golmaal Returns or Do Lucky where he pairs up with Govinda for the first time — all the four upcoming movies of Tusshar have him playing the funny man.
After an intense double bill in the form of Shoot Out At Lokhandwala and Aggar, was it a planned move to get your funny side out in full view?
“Not really,” revealed Tusshar, adding, “It wasn’t a conscious decision to sign only comedies. Moreover I have been doing comedies on a regular basis. Last year it was Dhamaal. In 2006, there was Golmaal, 2005 saw me in one of the biggest hits of the year —Kya Kool Hai Hum while Gayab was released in 2004. So as you see, I have been a part of the fun brigade all this while.”
2008 seems to be exceptional for the actor with four such flicks coming out back-to-back. “Yeah, I have to admit that. However, I have also signed the next production of Abbas Mustan, which is a family outing. Then there is Apoorva Lakhia’s action film on which work would begin once he is through with Mission Istanbul. 2009 would see me in much varied roles,” he said.
Coming to his first release of the year in a lead role (he has been seen in guest appearances in Halla Bol and Sunday earlier), what excited him most about One Two Three ? It seems to be on the same lines as Shakespeare’s Comedy of Errors.
“It is not as if the film is based on Comedy of Errors but yes, there is lot of comedy of errors per se,” Tusshar gets excited here, “As you know by now from the promos, it is about these three men — Suneil Shetty, Paresh Rawal and myself — who have the same name Laxminarayan. They are unknown to each other and check into the same hotel. The fun begins from there.”
How exactly? “Well, audience is certainly going to be splits whenever the three cross each other’s path. And believe me, it happens quite frequently when they keep landing up at the wrong place at the wrong time. They never realise that they are standing up for each other and in fact screwing up everyone’s life,” Tusshar added.
