KOCHI: Pop singer and award-winning playback singer Shaan on Saturday said the practice of choosing winners in reality television shows through SMS votes was good, but that it should not be based on caste or region.
   
"Choosing winners through SMS is quite a fair system. But it should not be based on caste or region', he said here.
   
Shaan is here for 'Idea rocks India III' concert series, organised by telecom services provider Idea.
  
To a query,he said there was no doubt about the credibility of reality shows. Winners are chosen on the basis of SMS and that is the success of reality shows. "It is not a simple thing", he said.
   
Shaan said young singers now get more opportunities, as in each film, the songs are sung by more number of singers.
   
To another query,Shaan said he loves to sing in Malayalam.
   
Sumedha, a contestant in the 'Saregama' reality show in Zee TV and who was voted out, was asked how she felt on choosing the winners through SMS said 'may be there is a luck factor, but it is a fair system'.
   
The Idea Rocks India Concerts by Shaan will tour 20 cities across india in nine weeks, and will end in Goa on March 30.
