Mumbai: It was a double delight for Marathi director Mangesh Hadawale, whose debut film 'Tingya' bagged two top honours at the MAMI International Film Festival.
Tingya won the jury's award for best Indian film and also walked away with FRIPESCI (International Film Critics) Award.
The film deals with problems faced by a debt-ridden farmer's family when their bullock takes ill at the height of sowing season. It is a sensitive potrayal of the farmer son's efforts to save the bullock from being slaughtered.
The twin awards were presented to 28-year-old Hadawale by noted filmmaker Yash Chopra.
The eight-day festival ended with honouring legendary Spanish filmmaker Carlos Saura with the newly constituted Global Lifetime Achievement Award. Renowned director Shyam Benegal presented the award to Saura.
Similarly, veteran Bollywood actor Dharamendra was honoured with the Lifetime Achievement Award, Rishi Kapoor was felicitated for his work in two and half decades in Bollywood and Gulzar for his contrubution to lyrics in Indian cinema. Incidentally, the three have never worked together.
