Endorsing excess
Friday, March 14, 2008 03:52 [IST]

endorsingDon’t know about you, but I am getting a little sick in the stomach looking at the way celebrities are going all out—almost giving their limbs—to endorse the brands they promote.

I mean, aren’t these stars chosen to endorse a brand because of their ‘out of reach’ quality? And then they come on stage and do everything that even your most non-starry neighbourhood uncle wouldn’t do in public.

I find Shah Rukh Khan taking a bath in full view, or Rahul Dravid shaving on stage hugely disappointing. There is a thin line between what is private and what’s not. Shaving and taking a bath certainly falls under the private category and should be strictly done behind closed doors—ask any red-blooded male.

Shouldn’t these groovy men be sticking to doing what they are best at, perhaps looking delicious in a well-cut suit (for a suiting brand perhaps) or wooing a woman in style?

These men are a part of the fantasies of millions of their female fans and I am sure that these are definitely not made of watching them do what should  be confined to the washroom.

Ok. What next? A superstar flossing in public to enlighten us about how he keeps his pearlies white? Or worse still, doing some unmentionables on stage ahem—perhaps in a bid to endorse a condom brand?
