Thiruvananthapuram: Two noted Spanish film-makers have observed that the invasion of Hollywood was adversely affecting the prospects of the domestic film industry in Spain.
Hollywood movies were being dubbed into Spanish which was affecting the domestic film industry, Carlos Saura said on the sidelines of the Spanish Film Festival which began on Mar 11 at the Kalabhavan Theatre here.
"International market has fetched recognition for film-makers like me," said Saura, whose film `Fados was screened at the festival yesterday.
"International festivals helped many Spanish directors at a time when their movies got lukewarm response from the home audience," said Julio Medem whose film `Chaotic Ana is being screened at the festival.
Spanish films were competing for a market in their own country with distributors opting for Hollywood films, he said, adding that there should be some regulation on the number of theatres where Hollywood films were released.
Ambassador of Spain in India Ion de la Riva, Deputy Director of Spanish Film Institute Pillar Torre, film distributor Pacho Heras, actors Rosa Maria Sarda, Ingrid Rubio, Maria Ruiz, Director Jorge Sanchez-Cabsezudo and Producer Beatrix de la Gandara are also attending the festival.
The other films being screened at the five-day festival include `The Night of the Sunflowers (Jorge Sanchez-Cabeduzo) `Pan's Labyrinth (Guillermo del Toro), `Summer Rain (Antonio Banderas), `Two Sides of the Bed (Emilio Martinez Lazaro), `Salvador (Manuel Huerga) and `Go away from me (Victor Garci Leon).
