Nearly a week after the Boys in Blue triumphed over World Champions Australia to win the Commonwealth Bank tri-series championship, Aamir Khan has used his personal blog to take a dig at Australia captain Ricky Ponting.
On Ponting’s pompous bragging that his team would wrap up the tri-series with a 2-0 win, Aamir writes, “Turns out Ponting was right about his prediction that there would be no need for the third match to decide the finals!” While applauding the triumph by team India and the subsequent euphoria, Aamir even took on the team’s critics, pointing out that the very same people had been running down this team after its poor show earlier.
“At this moment let us also stop for a moment and remind ourselves that some time back we were prepared to lynch the Indian team for not performing well. I hope the fans and a bulk of the national media who behaved so badly then are dropping their heads in shame,” Aamir writes.
While praising Dhoni’s boys for the win, Aamir has a special message for master blaster Sachin Tendulkar and bowler Pravin Kumar. “A huge applause for Sachin whose last two innings were instrumental in securing our win. Also, Pravin Kumar is quite a find I must say.”
But while he lambasted Ponting, Aamir seems to have a soft spot for Aussie wicketkeeper Adam Gilchrist. “I was a little disappointed though with the farewell to Adam Gilchrist. I think a player of his calibre deserved a better send off….he certainly is one of the greats of International cricket,” he commented.
