supriyalargeSupriya Pilgaonkar talks about the her secret strategy in handling her home and career at the same time

On doing outside productions…
It’s a misconception that I don’t do outside productions. In the past too, I have done outside shows but our home production Tu Tu Main Main and its sequel Khatti Meethi, our home production did very well. Also, I am very selective out my work. I cannot work in a daily soap.

On Radha Ki Betiyaan…
For starters, it’s a weekly. I shoot for a week or ten days in a month for the show which is comfortable enough for me. Also I liked the story line. It is on the lines of Pakistani television shows which have a lot of content to it. And then of course, I liked my role of Radha who is positive yet vulnerable. Also it helps because I have a teenage daughter like my character in the show. It’s an emotional drama but very life-like. All the factors just fitted well for me. I was apprehensive about taking it on because I wanted to go on a vacation or do some theatre. It was my hubby who convinced me that it was a good thing which I shouldn’t refuse.

On the television scenario…
Where is the content today? Now-a-days people are watching shows to see the dresses or the style of bindi that the actors are wearing.  The presentation has become more important than how realistic the story is. The stories are so repetitive that people have no qualms in taking breaks from watching the show because they feel they know what is going to happen next. If the audience is not going to feel involved, then there is no storytelling left which is sadly the state of affairs.

On being a home-maker…
I am proud to call myself a homemaker. I am finicky about my household chores and want to be in the know of things. But it’s just that if I am not connected about my home than I can’t be comfortable at work. I need to know that my mother-in-law is fine, my daughter has had proper nutrition and my husband’s chores are taken care of. I do need to chill a little.

On family life…
My daughter Shreya is 19 years old now. More than a mother, I am a friend to her. That’s the reason I like to return home when she’s home. It’s a blessing to have a supportive husband like Sachin. He’s always by my side. If I cannot be at home for some reason, he makes it a point to fill in for me. Like during Shreya’s exams, I had to be out of town for some reason. So he kept his other tasks away and stayed by her side till I returned.  Trust me, if you have a supportive husband, you can conquer the world.
