Bollywood wannabe wins Face of the Year in Pak
Wednesday, February 06, 2008 15:12 [IST]

Islamabad: A Bollywood wannabe from Pakistan has been crowned the Face of the Year 2007. Mehreen Syed, who earlier won the International Model of the Year award, recently walked the ramp in Lahore in an off-shoulder black silk evening gown to pick up the new title.

The doe-eyed beauty has already set her eyes on Bollywood and recently travelled to India to sign a project with filmmaker Shashi Ranjan.

Dozens of Pakistani girls clad in glittering evening gowns walked the ramp in Pakistan's cultural capital to compete for the Indigo-Sunday Face of the Year 2007 award.

Syed, like most beauty contest winners, could not believe that the crown was hers. "I was not expecting the award. I cannot believe this is me!" she said.
Upcoming models Faiza Ansari was declared the first runner-up and Nadia Ali the second runner up. The 53 women who walked the ramp featured on "Sunday" magazine's covers.

The star-studded event was choreographed by actress Meera, the Femme Fatale of the Year 2007. Singer Atif Aslam, basking in the success of his new album "Meri Kahani", staged a performance as a whirling dervish.

But the show stealer was the ambitious and adventurously eclectic fashion parade. It featured a collection by eminent designers displaying gypsy-like outfits decorated with large yet simple motifs in classic silks.

Ostentation was added as models walked down the stage holding large feathery fan props, while wrapped in basic colours predominantly black and white.

The cuts were chiefly western but artistically attuned to eastern fashion.
