Mumbai: Madonna's first appointment in the city wasn't with any Bollywood celebrity or high-flying socialite — it was with the humble residents of Cuffe Parade's Koliwada. Playing guide was author Gregory David Roberts and his wife Francoise Sturdza.
An unidentified man in an orange t-shirt (who greeted the Material girl with a kiss) took the lead in guiding Madonna and Guy Ritchie through the maze of narrow streets to the interiors of the settlement, where a reception party was ready with drums to greet the Hollywood star.
Later the whole gang visited a local restaurant called Saurabh — apparently recommended by Gregory who loves the South Indian food there. Lunch consisted of masala dosas, idlis, and daal rice, rounded off with masala chai. In fact, Madonna liked the tea so much she asked for a second helping of masala chai.
By the looks of it, she's doing the 'Shantaram' recci and taking in the sights and sounds of Mumbai made popular by Gregory's novel. Johnny Depp will be playing the lead in the film being made on the book.
