 Ismat Tahseen

dimplejWhile it’s just been a month for her in the serial ‘Kuch Is Tara’ (KIT), Dimple Jhangiani has been in the ad world since a year and also shot a music video for Pakistani singer ‘Abraar’, so facing the camera is not something new to her.

“You know it was Ekta Kapoor who spotted me at a poster on a paan beedi shop opposite the Balaji office. It was an ad for an MBA institute. She got her secretary to source my number and since then acting has been on the cards.

However this transition to the world of serials, which Dimple pursues full-time now, “wasn’t too easy,” she admits. “It’s a different world in the serials. From the walk, to the scene appearance, to the facial look one maintains, everything has to be kept in mind.”

For someone who has had no formal training, it was that much more of an effort.

Cradle of learning:
For the 20-year old, each day on the sets of KIT is a learning experience. “Since I had no acting background, I had to brush up on my own skills and learn the ropes too,” she admits. The 5-day workshop that she had with her director Ravindra Jain really helped too.

“I had to practise my dialogues in front of the mirror till I could get them perfect. And through it all, he (Ravindra) was really very patient with me; I should salute him,” she says. Her other so-stars were equally supportive. “Jayati Bhatia who plays my mother - Pammi is always ready to lend a hand, so is Tarana who plays my on-screen sister.”

No skin please:
There’s a saying that Bollywood lures all models and TV stars and Dimple is no exception. In fact, she passionately hopes to join the Hindi  film bandwagon someday. “I hope it’s with Fardeen Khan,” she giggles. “He’s my favourite style icon and he’s so cool.” Shahid Kapur too, if destiny guides her onto her desired path.

“I wouldn’t act with Shah Rukh (Khan) though, he’s my papa’s age,” she states. While she seems to have Bollywood on her in mind, it’s the darker side of it that she will steer from, namely exposing. As an only daughter, and coming from a traditional family, Dimple says she’s led a very sheltered life and holds her values firmly.
