Malayalam actor Mohanlal said on Tuesday commercial success was not the only factor that prompted him to act in good films.
Addressing a press meet in connection with the release of his new film `Paradeshi' relating to the theme of Pakistani citizens living in Kerala, Mohanlal said he was proud to have taken a role in the film, directed by P T Kunhumohammed.
"As an actor, I am proud of having played a role in such a movie, like `Vanaprastham' by Shaji N Karun," he said.
Attempts should be made to promote good cinema, he said, adding he had no complaint against `Paradeshi' not being selected for the Indian panorama section of the International Film Festival of India.
Mohanlal said he had a common approach to all the films in which he acted which was to express whatever was within his abilities.
Kunhimohammed, who was also present, said the blame should be on the director if a film failed. `Paradeshi' had got good response from the public, he said.
