anu_400Vidya Prabhu chats up actor Anu Agarwal who made a public appearance after a gap of almost 12 years!

She may not have been the face that launched a thousand ships but she definitely had a face to reckon with. Add to that the fame she garnered with her hit movie ‘Aashiqui’ in the year 1990 and you’d know why Anu Agarwal was chosen as the face of Lakme shampoo back in the 90’s.

Since then of course, the actor has fallen under the ‘recluse’ category with no one really knowing what she has been up to all these years. So when Anu sauntered in wearing a straw hat for the Lakme Divas press conference, it sure sent many tongues wagging.

Anu, however, was quite reticent and she tried to field most of the questions being thrown at her.

“Years back, I had modelled for this brand and when they asked me to come in for a walk down the memory lane, I couldn’t say no,” she reasoned.

As for what she was doing all this while, Anu replied that she has now turned to yoga and meditation for a ‘better’ life. “I have gone through a lot over the years and I even met an almost fatal accident. It’s actually a long story - a private one at that and I really don’t want to get into it. But yes, I have grown so much thanks to yoga,” she says, adding that maybe, someday she’ll pen down the journey that has been. “I’ll write about when I’m ready,” she emphasises.

That said, she makes it a point to note that she still gets overwhelmed when people refer to her as the ‘Aashiqui’ girl. “It just amazes me that even after so many years people remember me and like me for my work,” she enthuses.

So is she planning to make a comeback? “I don’t get the word ‘comeback’. I mean, I think I will need to start or restart my career,” she says. And before you ask her anything else, she ends it with, “I don’t want to answer any more questions. I have, in fact, come out before the media after almost 12 years and to tell you the truth, I’m scared of the media.”
