The last time they met at an event, he swooped her in his arms, kissed her on the cheek and soon had our moral police gunning for his head!
On September 9, Shilpa Shetty and Richard Gere are set to meet again on stage and if awards ceremony etiquette is properly followed, a kiss between the two looks inevitable. Fortunately, this time the duo will be far, far away at the ‘One X One Foundation’ charity gala in Toronto, where Shetty will present Gere with the ‘One X One Difference Award’.
The foundation is honouring Gere, a practising Buddhist, in appreciation of his charity work. He has helped establish the ‘AIDS Care Home’ - a residential facility in India for women and children with AIDS, and has also created the ‘Gere Foundation India Trust’ to support a variety of humanitarian programmes here.
The event, hosted by Academy Award winner Matt Damon, will feature performances by Grammy Award-winner Shakira, Wyclef Jean of the Fugees, Montreal singing sensation Nikki Yanofsky, the African Children’s Choir and many others.
The aim of charity gala is to raise funds for the awareness of child welfare. Last year’s event raised over $3.5 million dollars and since the foundation’s inception in 2005, it has raised more than $5 million dollars.
As for Shilpa, when asked about this much-awaited meeting with Gere, she quipped, “These days even if I yell loudly, the media will right about it!”
