My songs touched people: Khayyam

KhayyamAs the music talent show ‘Sa Re Ga Ma Pa-Challenge 2007’ (Zee) enters the next segment this Friday, there will be a change in the Mahagurus too. After noted singers Asha Bhosle and Ghulam Ali, music stalwarts Rajesh Roshan and Khayyam (Mohammed Zahoor Khayyam Hashmi) will now continue the task of enhancing the contestants’ skills and judjing  them Khayyam, who has given evergreen melodies for films inclduing ‘Kabhie Kabhie’, ‘Umrao Jaan’, ‘Bazaar’ reiterates, “The show is a good opportunity for young singers of this generation. It encourages them and provides them worldwide exposure. Plus, they will be mentored by established singers. ”

He comments on the  music scenario saying  , “People are learning new forms of music. I am not against the trend. I respect all forms of music. However,  people should keep a good balance between classical and mortal kind of music. Today,  music is the best form of art and it should be free of vulgarity unlike how it is being projected these days.”

Khayyam continues, “My songs touched people and moved them to tears. Often listeners would weep while hearing the  song ‘Dekhlo aaj humko’ from ‘Bazaar’. Even today, people get emotional. My songs were a hit in days when there was no promotional might.” He adds, “Even today, people seek solace from the song ‘Kabhi kisiko mukammil  jahan nahin milta’ that  I composed for ‘Ahsita Ahista’.”
