Moviegoers in Karnataka eagerly await the release of director B.S. Lingadevaru's Kannada film "Kaada Beladingalu". This is perhaps the first film that focuses on the impact of globalisation on rural India and its people.

It seeks to reveal rural reality through the eyes of a young woman journalist, Sudheshne, who is assigned to investigate a murder in her native village.

A special show of the film was held recently and many literary personalities and film artistes such as Jnanpith award-winner U.R. Anantha Murthy, renowned director Girish Kasaravalli, actress and tele-serial director Vaishali Kasaravalli, directors P. Sheshadri and Ramadasa Naidu and well-known critic Manu Chakravarthy attended.

Commenting upon the film, Murthy said it brings out the danger of excessive globalisation, which is downgrading agriculture and promoting consumerism. He also said that the film highlights the rising threat of naxalism in Malnad, Karnataka.

Kasaravalli said that though the film started on an investigative note, it moved on to chronicle the tragedy of the elderly population living in deserted villages.

"Kaada Beladingalu" highlights the devastating impact of rapid globalisation and economic reforms on a vibrant rural life. In the film, old people refuse to cut off connections with the place they have lived in for decades.

It is produced by Bengalooru Company, which has social activists, journalists, writers, artistes and film directors on its board, and is directed by B.S. Lingadevaru, who earlier made "Mouni".
