JagdeepVeteran humorist Jagdeep underlines the indispensable role of comedy in films

How does it feel bagging the Star Gold Comedy Honors Award?
Our country has always been very encouraging towards any kind of talent. That’s what makes it so special for every artiste. It’s really nice of the channel to appreciate such talent. An artiste couldn’t ask for more.

How important is comedy for a film?
Comedy may be a small aspect of the movie but nonetheless it’s a very important part. The role is the same as that of a joker in a circus who keeps the audiences engrossed as the main characters gear up for their show.

What makes a good comedy?
In a country like ours with so many languages and cultures, the body language is what forms a common thread in all types of comedies. Comedy also needs a good script. The best form of comedy is situational, something in which the legendary Charlie Chaplin was a veteran.

How has comedy changed over the years?
The writing of a comedy is very important. Sadly, this is ignored. The jokes seem forced. Also, the audience’s mindset has changed and subsequently the kind of comedy that is appreciated has also changed.

As a comedian did you miss playing the lead character?
A comedian is and always be the pillar of a film. Every person involved with a film has his own place. As a comedian, I have made a certain place for myself and am extremely happy with it.
